Borderland Bride by Samantha Holt

Borderland Bride

Book One of the Borderland Legacy Series

Medieval Romance

This is a beautiful medieval romance that starts off with misunderstandings, secrets and an obstacle that both heroine and hero must overcome to truly understand one another.  With Isabel unable to speak, Jake must learn to read her to understand her.  A connection deeper than any words could ever foster, they open their hearts to one another.

But there are secrets and there are other obstacles keeping them from being together.  The reasons Jake came upon Isabel in the forest that fateful day begin to be revealed.  Danger is lurking and it is only a matter of time before everything comes to light.  But, will Jake and Isabel be able to have a future together?  Or will they get close, only to have her father's demands stand in the way?

Jake is a rough character that has his own hurts to overcome.  But, in Isabel he finds peace and love and the walls he's erected around his heart come crashing down.  I adored him and until the end was rooting for their love.

As always, Ms. Holt kept me on the edge of my seat.  There was plenty of romance, danger and a beautiful happily ever after that kept me smiling for quite a while.   If you enjoy medieval romance, I truly believe you will love this book.

Synopsis:

In the wilderness of 14th century Northumbria, Lady Isabel discovers just how dangerous the Borderlands can be. With the loss of her voice and her hearing, there is little hope left for her. But when a brooding knight rescues her, she vows never to become a victim again and buries the secrets of her past in the hope that those hunting her will never find her in the Borderlands.

Jake is astonished to come across the beautiful Isabel, near to death, on his brother’s lands. Bringing her back to his brother’s home, he finds himself longing for something more from the courageous woman, something that he thought he would never want again. Isabel works her way into his scarred heart and opens Jake up to loving once more. But will Isabel’s secrets destroy their bond? And with his charismatic brother, Dominic, charming her, does he even stand a chance?

Snippets:

As soon as his name left her lips, Isabel could not fail to detect the darkening of his eyes. Her skin tingled as elation turned to lust and she glanced down at her bare body, the heat of the water doing little to stop the shudder that coursed through her.
“Say it again,” he murmured as a hand came up to cup at her cheek.
“What?” she breathed.
“Say my name.” His thumb pushed across her damp face and her lips parted as her heart pounded faster. “Jake.”

Jake was surprised to find he was no longer filled with doubt, or fear. She had offered herself to him, not only in body but also in soul, and though it was true he was not sure why he was worthy of her, he found he did not doubt himself or their bond. Aye, she had not said she loved him, but he was sure of it now. He had spotted it in her eyes. He would dearly love to hear the words from her lips but he was secure in the knowledge the love between them was real.

Cover:

This cover is beautiful, romantic and classy.  Clear images that properly depict the characters.   I love when a cover matches the vision I have for the hero and heroine, as this one does.  Easy to read and beautifully done.
